How much does it cost to start a “Y” Club?
Okay, here is the deal: Membership is charged by a "per member rate" of $12. We recommend that no Club have fewer than 10 members. These "dues" are annual and help subsidize the services and resources that the State YMCA provides local "Y" Clubs.
Do you offer scholarships for State YMCA programs and conferences?
Yes! Scholarships are available. In fact, each year we give out thousands of dollars in scholarships because it is important to all of us at the State YMCA to offer our great programs and conferences to all Georgia teens. Check out information on this website about scholarships or contact a State YMCA Staff member for more details. All information is confidential!
I am not a teacher or faculty member at a school. How do I get involved?
To be an "Advisor" for the purposes of the State YMCA of Georgia, one must be at least 21 years of age and have successfully passed a Criminal Background Check. Since "Y" Clubs also operate under the auspices of local schools, the Advisor must be approved through the school administration. (NOTE: The requirements vary from school to school).
Do I have to be a part of a "Y" Club to attend a program or conference?
We do require that you be a member of a "Y" Club in order to attend our conferences. However, if you are in grades 6-12, you should be in "Y" Club anyway! Don't worry, it is not all that hard to start a Club in your school. We'll help you! Contact a State YMCA Staff member for more details. You can still attend a program or participate in a conference until we get a program established at your school, but you will need a chaperone.

How are you related to the YMCA and the YMCA movement?
The State YMCA of Georgia is part of a nationwide YMCA teen leadership initiative, active in over 40 states. We are not a governing board of local (facility) YMCAs, nor are we a department or program of any YMCA branch in Georgia. Unlike a YMCA branch with a fitness center and a pool, the State YMCA of Georgia serves as an independently chartered organization dedicated specifically to providing programs and opportunities for teens. Membership in a local YMCA facility is not required in order to participate in State YMCA programs.
Each local YMCA and the State YMCA maintain independent, but mutually beneficial relationships. Additionally, each YMCA is financially independent.
How do I get started as a "Y" Club?
It’s easy! First find a teacher, coach, guidance counselor, parent or any responsible, fun, over the age of 21 person to volunteer as an Advisor. Second, invite a District Director from the State YMCA to your school to make a presentation. The State Office has many people ready, willing, and able to come and talk with administrators, teachers, and students about the program. We will help you sell it to your school! Contact the State YMCA office at (770) 455-9622 or by email at
